how credit transfers to asu

ASU will accept transfer credit for traditional course work you have successfully completed at regionally accredited institutions of higher education. However, some of the courses you transfer may not apply to your specific degree program. Whether the credit will apply depends on the requirements of the department, division, or college in which you enroll. For example, some ASU colleges will not apply credit for courses that were evaluated with nontraditional grading systems (e.g., such as pass/fail). You should review the degree requirements of the program into which you intend to transfer and confer with an academic advisor about the transfer and application of your credits.

ASU will NOT accept the following types of credit:

  1. Courses in which you earned a grade below “C-.”
  2. Credit awarded by postsecondary institutions in the United States that lack candidate status or accreditation by a regional accrediting association.
  3. Credit awarded by postsecondary institutions for life experience.
  4. Credit awarded by postsecondary institutions for courses taken at non-collegiate institutions (e.g., governmental agencies, corporations, industrial firms, etc.).
  5. Credit awarded by postsecondary institutions for non-credit courses, workshops, and seminars offered by other postsecondary institutions as part of continuing education programs.

With the exception of some special programs, the maximum number of lower-division credits you can transfer from a regionally accredited community, junior, or two-year college is 64 credit hours.

Grades and honor points that you earned at other colleges and universities are considered for admission, but your ASU cumulative grade point average (GPA) is based solely upon course work taken at ASU. However, if you are an honorably discharged veteran who served in the Armed Forces of the United States for a minimum of two years, you are given an exception to the way your grades and honor points are treated for admission. When the Admissions Office reviews your application for admission, they may not consider any failing grades you received at an Arizona university or college before your military service. To validate your service, your military service records, including form DD 214, must be submitted to the Admissions Office.

Students are strongly encouraged to meet with a transfer advisor to review course work intended for transfer to ASU.
